Privacy policy

Effective July 13, 2026

HomeHandoff organizes private, property-specific information for authorized homeowners, agents, inspectors, and invited collaborators. This policy explains the pilot product’s intended data practices. Replace the contact and company details with final legal information before accepting paid production users.

Information we collect

We may collect account details, contact information, property details, appliance and system records, maintenance notes, vendor information, documents you upload, inventory records, transfer activity, support messages, and limited technical logs required to operate and secure the service.

How information is used

We use information to provide the home passport, authenticate users, organize records, answer house-specific questions, complete ownership transfers, support users, prevent abuse, and improve the service. We do not use private home documents to train public models.

AI processing

When the optional AI assistant is enabled, selected home records relevant to a question may be sent to the configured AI provider to generate a grounded answer. The service is designed to send only bounded house context and to disable provider-side response storage where supported. Users should not rely on AI output as inspection, emergency, legal, insurance, or licensed trade advice.

Sharing

We share information with service providers needed to host, authenticate, store, secure, and operate HomeHandoff. We may also disclose information when required by law or to protect users and the service. We do not sell personal information.

Access and transfer

Private home records are limited to authorized members. During an ownership transfer, the prior owner’s active owner access is revoked and the invited buyer becomes the owner. Agents or editors may retain access only when the owner has authorized that role.

Retention and deletion

Records are retained while the home passport is active or as needed for legitimate business, security, and legal purposes. Authorized users may request export or deletion. Some audit and transaction records may be retained when necessary to document security or ownership events.

Security

HomeHandoff uses authentication, private storage, row-level access controls, expiring transfer tokens, and server-side secrets. No system can guarantee absolute security. Users should not upload door codes, alarm codes, Social Security numbers, loan documents, or unrelated highly sensitive information.
